BIPOLAR DISORDER.

Moody People

Manic Depression is an older term for what is now known as bipolar disorder. This condition is used after observing a patient and confirmed, only after a fairly considerable amount of time and by an expert psychiatrist.
Now the patient may initially be examined when he/she is going through a period of depression. So, initially, the person is diagnosed with depression. Now, this usually leads to the doctors prescribing the wrong medication, like Prozac, which has an adverse, and paradoxical effect. Instead of reducing the depression, it increases it.
Now manic-depression, or bipolar disorder, is described as a person being "moody," having mood swings, and there are two tyoes: Bipolar I and Bipolar II. Bipolar I indicates the more severe disorder because the person actualy has diurnal swings, in other words, during the course of one day, the person may be exuberant and then lethargic. Bipolar II indicates that a person may pass through seasonal exuberances, followed by long depressive episodes lasting months.According to bipoar.about.com if paranoia or hallucinations occur, then the diagnosis is definitely Bipolar I. Also the patient with Bipolar I experiences full blown mania and the Bipolar II patient a less severe form of hypomania.
So, that is why it may be very difficult to properly diagnose the person, because without the corroboration of a third party, most likely a family member, about the "mood swings", the doctor has only a short history during which to examine the patient. Usually, it is during the depressive cycle.
Another symptom of bipolar disorder is thoughts of grandeur, and racing toughts, and this is where the psychosis may come in. Psychosis is not always connected with bipolar disorder. However, during an exuberant phase, the patient may become disorganized, and/or suicidal. In fact, suicidal ideation is one of the conclusive factors in diagnosing manic-depressive. Additionally, drug use and promiscuity are often linked to bipolar disrder.
Psychosis itself refers more clearly to those who experience delirium or hallucinations, rather than in bipolar disorder, although it can happen. Obviously there are many times when a person has overlapping diagnoses, as one with schizophrenia may also have a concurrent bipolar disorder, or a Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD).
In order to make a conclusive diagnosis, which is the most important step, the person should be hospitalized, so that adequate observation can be made possibly by several doctors, some of whom may be more expert psychiatrists. It is very difficult to arrive at a dignosis based on an outpatient visit.
Just as an aside, medical astrology has pointed out that Kalaparusha Yoga often indicates a bipolar condition.I might mention that many in Hollywood have this characteristic as is demonstrated by their behavor, promiscuity and high suicide rate.Kalaparusha Yoga can be responsible for meteoric rise to fame but is also the culprit behind their mania.
There is some controversy over the use of medications, since there will be side effects, but obviously some may not want to go against their doctor's advice. I have met some who have used yoga and meditation and other spiritual practices to nice advantage. However, it is best to notify your family members, if you decide to go that route, as they will be more objective and can give you feedback.

EID AL-ADHA: THE FESTIVAL OF SACRIFICE.

Eid al-Adha is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate, the origin of which comes from the Quran. Also known as Hari Raya Haji, Hari Raya Kurban, or the Festival of Sacrifice, the Eid al-Adha is one of the several religious festivals celebrated by Muslims all over the word. Here, the Muslim community commemorates God’s forgiveness of Ibrahim, or Abraham, from his promise to sacrifice his own son Ishmael as commanded by Allah

When is Hari Raya Haji 2010/ Eid al-Adha 2010?

The festival annually falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja of the lunar Islamic Calendar. It runs for two to three days, even more, depending on the country celebrating it. Eid ul-Adha happens the day after pilgrims perform Hajj, or the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide. The pilgrimage is done approximately seventy days after the end of the month of Ramadan.
The festival is based on the Islamic lunar calendar, and thus in Gregorian calendar the date changes every year. Hari Raya Kurban 2010 is expected to fall on Wednesday, 17 November 2010. However since the festival is determined based on moon-sighting, the exact date of the Hari Raya Haji 2010 will be announced by the Islamic authority closer to the festival.

What Is Expected During Hari Raya Haji / Kurban?

Men, women, and children of the Muslim community are required to dress in their finest clothing to perform the Eid prayer. Well-off Muslim devotees sacrifice their best domestic animals, usually sheep, cows, goats and even camels, as a reenactment of Ibrahim’s sacrifice. These sacrificed animals, or udhiya, have to meet certain age (the animal must be at least a year old) and quality or else it is considered as an unacceptable sacrifice. During the sacrifice ceremony, Allah’s name is recited with the offering statement and a supplication, as said by Muhammad.
According to the Quran, ample portions of the sacrificed animal meat should be given to the poor and hungry, so that they too can join in the festivities. The remainder of the meat is cooked for the family celebration meal, wherein it is shared among friends and families. During the celebration, Muslims are also expected to visit their kin, from their parents down to their friends.

Eid al-adha 2010 in South Asia

In India and Pakistan, the Eid al-adha is called Bari Eid, which translates into Big Eid in English. Kashir calls it Baed Eid. In South Africa, it is called Bakri Eid, which came from the Arabic word bagara, or “heifer” or the traditional sacrifice

Hari Raya Haji 2010 in South East Asia

In the South East Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Brunei) it is call “Idul Adha” or “Aidil Adha”. It is also referred to as “Hari Raya Korban” or the Sacrifice Celebration Day. Another term, “Hari Raya Haji” or “Lebaran Haji” translates to the Celebration Day of the Hajj.
Hari Raya Haji 2010 is a public holiday in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.
The “Aidil Adha” or the Sacrifice Celebration Day is celebrated about two months after Aidilfitri, particularly on the 10th day of Zulhijah, or the 12th month of the Muslim calendar, marking the end of the sacrificial period. Every year, Muslims trace their journey to the Holy Land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the haj: a requirement in the Islam religion. Muslims must perform the haj at least once in their lifetime. After the haj is performed, the men are given the title “haji” and the women “hajjah” .

SCHIZOPHRENIA

Schizophrenia (pronounced /ˌskɪtsɵˈfrɛniə/ or /ˌskɪtsɵˈfriːniə/) is a mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of the process of thinking and of emotional responsiveness.[1] It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young adulthood,[2] with a global lifetime prevalence of around 1.5%.[3][4] Diagnosis is based on the patient's self-reported experiences and observed behavior.

Genetics, early environment, neurobiology, psychological and social processes appear to be important contributory factors; some recreational and prescription drugs appear to cause or worsen symptoms. Current psychiatric research is focused on the role of neurobiology, but this inquiry has not isolated a single organic cause. As a result of the many possible combinations of symptoms, there is debate about whether the diagnosis represents a single disorder or a number of discrete syndromes. Despite the etymology of the term from the Greek roots skhizein (σχίζειν, "to split") and phrēn, phren- (φρήν, φρεν-; "mind"), schizophrenia does not imply a "split mind" and it is not the same as dissociative identity disorder—also known as "multiple personality disorder" or "split personality"—a condition with which it is often confused in public perception.[5]

Unusually high dopamine activity in the mesolimbic pathway of the brain has been found in people with schizophrenia. The mainstay of treatment is antipsychotic medication; this type of drug primarily works by suppressing dopamine activity. Dosages of antipsychotics are generally lower than in the early decades of their use. Psychotherapy, and vocational and social rehabilitation, are also important. In more serious cases—where there is risk to self and others—involuntary hospitalization may be necessary, although hospital stays are shorter and less frequent than they were in previous times.[6]

The disorder is thought mainly to affect cognition, but it also usually contributes to chronic problems with behavior and emotion. People with schizophrenia are likely to have additional (comorbid) conditions, including major depression and anxiety disorders;[7] the lifetime occurrence of substance abuse is around 40%. Social problems, such as long-term unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are common. Furthermore, the average life expectancy of people with the disorder is 10 to 12 years less than those without, due to increased physical health problems and a higher suicide rate (about 5%).[8][9]
